Waxing F.A.Q.'s

WAXING F.A.Q.'s

What is the difference between shaving, epilating creams, tweezing, threading, epilators, waxing, sugaring, laser, and electrolysis?

Shaving and Epilating Creams only remove hair from the surface of the skin. You must maintain every 1-3 days. Tweezing, Threading, Epilators, Waxing, and Sugaring removes hair by the root. You must maintain every 3-6 weeks. Waxing is the newest technology of all these methods. Laser permanently reduces hair growth, and Electrolysis permanently stops all hair growth.

What is the difference between hard (strip-less) and soft (strip) wax? And does the brand of wax matter?

Hard Wax, or strip-less wax, only attaches to the hairs. As the wax dries it essentially shrink-wraps around each hair. Hard wax is applied at a lower temperature. It is a more comfortable wax experience and safer for the skin with much less irritation than other methods. Soft Wax attaches to the hair and the skin, so it is only safe to go over each area one time (so that skin will not be lifted). Large areas where the hair all grows in one direction (such as the legs, arms, back, and stomach) are very safe to use this type of wax. For areas with multiple hair growth patterns and thinner skin (such as under arms, bikini or Brazilian, face, and chest) hard wax is recommended. The brand of wax makes a huge difference! A higher quality brand of wax will be less painful, create less irritation, and grab hairs better.

What sanitary methods (that I can look for) should be taken by the wax technician to ensure I have the safest service possible?

A clean sheet or wax paper (on the waxing table) should be used for every client. Implements such as tweezers or brow scissors should be disinfected in a visible hospital grade disinfectant container, and kept in a closed container for sanitation between clients. Wax should be applied with wooden applicator sticks that are thrown away after every use. The wax stick should Never be double-dipped in the wax (this would spread bacteria from person to person). The wax technician should always wear disposable gloves while waxing. Lids should be on/over the wax pot(s) when not in use.
